UConn · Storrs
Where the salon story began.
The original UConn-area salon opened in 2010. Today, its Storrs Center location serves the campus community from 1206 Storrs Road, Suite B.
ZCS 3D Manufacturing • Project Cut To The Chase
A purpose-built cup-and-phone holder that brings Cut To The Chase identity, practical workstation organization, and a confident black-and-white finish into one salon companion.
The interactive viewer is derived from the exact Jadz R052 / ZCS012 3MF. It is a controlled design visualization—not proof of printing, send, completion, delivery, or physical acceptance.
The project partner
Cut To The Chase is a family-owned and operated Connecticut hair salon. The business began on the University of Connecticut campus in 2010 and expanded with a Vernon location in 2020—bringing an established salon identity to two distinct communities.

Vernon · Connecticut
Opened in 2020, the Vernon salon extends the Cut To The Chase experience beyond campus while carrying forward the same recognizable identity.
The Salon Companion Cup Holder is intended to support both salon environments after controlled production release and location-specific placement review.
The project brief
The goal was not a generic container. It was a recognizable workstation piece with dedicated cup and phone openings, a confident footprint, and Cut To The Chase identity built directly into the product.
Observe
Translate cup, phone, tool, clearance, and placement needs into a brief grounded in everyday station use.
Engineer
Balance usable openings, tall walls, stable geometry, readable lettering, and repeatable manufacturing.
Personalize
Use the salon name, contrast, and signature flourishes to make the companion feel native to Cut To The Chase.
Validate
Inspect geometry, materials, placement, fit, finish, and location needs before any controlled production release.
Inspect the design
The viewer preserves the R052 geometry and its black-and-white material split, letting visitors explore the openings, tall walls, center seam, integrated identity, and overall workstation form directly in the browser.
A compelling story starts with a real design—and stays honest about the difference between digital geometry and physical proof.
The result
ZCS combined custom CAD, additive manufacturing, interactive inspection, and release discipline to create a recognizable salon companion—while protecting the difference between a controlled design and a production-approved, location-ready product.
